"Operation Puff Adder" missing in action as kidnappers take over Abuja-Kaduna highway

The much celebrated “Operation Puff Adder”, which was launched by the Inspector General of Police earlier this month, to combat kidnapping on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, has been missing in action and was totally deactivated on Monday by kidnappers. The kidnappers, on Monday, afternoon blocked the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, forcing several motorists to abandon their vehicles and head for nearby bushes to avoid being abducted. The development has left many motorists and passengers unaccounted for just as their belongings were carted away by the kidnappers. A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who narrowly escaped the attack by the kidnappers reported that the incident happened a few kilometres to Katari village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna state at about 3.30pm. Ebonyi activists petition Adenuga over "negative" Glo advert

Three Ebonyi born social activists have petitioned Global Communication Limited, a telecommunication giant with brand name as ‘Globacom’ over alleged offensive advert running on televisions and other electronic devices. The activists, Messrs Innocent Onu, Inya Richard and Christian Ogba in the petition urged Globacom to immediately stop the alleged offensive advert which they claimed portrayed Ebonyi negatively from being aired on televisions and other visual electronic devices. The petition which was made available to newsmen in Abakaliki on Sunday was dated April 27, 2019 and was addressed to Chief Mike Adenuga, owner of Globacom Nigeria. The petition was entitled ‘Globacom’ s disrespect for Abakaliki, Ebonyi: A call to take down the ”GLO OGA SIM” advert featuring Lagbaja’. An Oke-Bola-based trader, Olabisi Adejola, has pleaded with a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve her 16-year-old union to her husband, Paul, “because he is too sex hungry and often rape her.” Testifying before Chief Ademola Odunade, the court’s President, Obabisi, a mother of three, said that her husband might sniff life out of her if the court did not separate them, because he usually rapes her. “My lord, I made up my mind to call it quits with Paul, because there is no peace in our marriage. Paul often subjects me to untold brutality in the process of sleeping with me. If he does not succeed in raping me, he beats or rains curses on me. “Paul is forever requesting for sex and I fear that he might turn me into something else if I don’t leave him,” she told the court. 1.9m Mosquito Nets To Be Distributed To Ebonyians

The Ebonyi Government says it will distribute 1.9 million long lasting, insecticide-treated nets to households in the state under its 2019 universal net distribution campaign. Dr Daniel Umezurike, the state Commissioner for Health, disclosed this on Thursday while adressing newsmen on the occasion of the World Malaria Day. According to him, the Ministry’s warehouse in Ikwo Local Government Area is fully stocked with the commodity. Umezurike remarked that about 56 trucks are presently offloading the commodity as the state government in 2015, partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to distribute 1.7 million nets. ”The distribution of the presently procured nets will follow the same pattern of 2015 where the distributors recruited from the 17 wards of the state will be adequately trained. ”The households in the state will be enumerated and be given nets card which they would use to collect the nets on the day of distribution. ”Distributin
