APC mourns as treasurer is shot dead during supper in Ekiti

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has been thrown into mourning, following the killing of the Treasurer, Mr. Moses Adeoye, on Wednesday night.

He was reportedly shot dead in his home in Otun-Ekiti, the headquarters of Moba Local Government, when having supper. The gunmen were said to have invaded Adeoye’s home about 9pm and shot the victim.

He was killed a few hours after returning to Otun-Ekiti, after being part of the town hall meetings held by Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti North and Ekiti South senatorial districts.

Adeoye was the APC chairman in his local government before he became the treasurer at the state congress in September.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, upon hearing the sad news, directed security agencies to ensure that the killers were arrested and prosecuted. Dr. Fayemi vowed to get to the root of the matter, stressing that anyone found to be connected with the killing would be dealt with.

He said his administration would work with security agencies to stop killings and violence and commiserated with the deceased’s family, assuring them of justice.

Dr. Fayemi, who was out of the state on official duty when the incident occurred, described the death of the APC chieftain as sad and devastating.  He pledged government’s support for the family.

The governor’s condolence message was delivered to the family by a delegation comprising the Secretary to the State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, Chief of Staff, Biodun Omoleye and Chief Alaba Abejide.

The delegation later visited the palace of Oore of Otun, Oba Adedapo Oladele Popoola and the party secretariat, where they also delivered the governor’s condolence message.

Police spokesman, Caleb Ikechukwu, said the command had begun investigation. He said the suspects would soon be nabbed.

Stop inflicting economic hardship on Ebonyians with tax demands, ex-SSG implores Umahi

Former Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State, Professor Benard Odoh, has implored the Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, to desist from inflicting economic hardship on Ebonyians. In an open letter he made available to Paulokahblog Friday morning, Odoh said that, "as a way of cushioning the devastating effects of the covid-19 pandemic on Ebonyi’s struggling economy, there is urgent need to jettison the collection of tenement rates/ground rents from landlords, excessive/forceful drive for quarry haulage levies and waiving of personal income taxes".  Odoh regretted that, despite the efforts of the state government in policing its borders against the COVID-19 pandemic, Ebonyi State, as of May 21, has recorded 13 cases and expressed hope that the situation would not get worse in the state in particular and Nigeria in general, even as he pledged support for the state government in ensuring that the active cases are managed successfully "to t...

Don't quit by Edgar Albert Guest

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, when the road you're trudging seems all uphill, when the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile but you have to sigh, when care is pressing you down a bit - rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a fellow turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - you may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup; and he learned too late when the night came down, how close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - the silver tint of the clouds of doubt, and when you never can tell how close you are, it may be near when it seems afar; so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit - it's when things seem...

The Ebonyi Government on Saturday gave reasons for the non participation of its athletes at the on-going National Sports Festival (NSF) in Abuja.
