"Forgive and forget," Umahi begs journalists

Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, has implored journalists practising in the state and beyond to join hands in moving the state forward as they are critical stakeholders.

In a statement made available to Paulokahblog on Saturday, which was signed by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, and Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Hon. Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, Umahi said that journalists are invited to partner with government to win this war against Covid-19.

He said: "The Governor commends and thanks many of the journalists in Ebonyi State for standing strongly with Ebonyi State Government in this unfortunate pandemic situation in Nigeria and assures all journalists of government's continued support to carry out their professional duties unhindered. We also appeals to them to work with the state government for the benefit of Ebonyi State and the entire country.

"The Governor wishes to make it very clear that for whatever misgiving government had against the two journalists, who reported Ebonyi State negatively in the midst of this pandemic, it was never against the two newspaper houses, but on the two individuals, and  those individuals have since been forgiven; we have kept everything  behind us."

Continuing, he said: "It would be recalled that both Sun and Vanguard Newspapers nominated the Governor of Ebonyi State for a distinguished award as the Best Governor of the Year 2019, and it is a show of wonderful working relationship with these two wonderful media Institutions.

"The Governor charged the government media managers to follow all due process in seeking redress from the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the management of the media house, should there be a case of unprofessional conduct by the media in future. For the avoidance of doubt, no journalist is banned in entering any of government premises in Ebonyi State, rather everyone of them is invited to partner with Government to win this war against Covid-19."

Iheukwumere said that, despite having limited resources, he dedicated his salary as SA to start the project in 2014, due to the fact that the beneficiary had been sleeping outside with his six children since 2007. Don't quit by Edgar Albert Guest

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, when the road you're trudging seems all uphill, when the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile but you have to sigh, when care is pressing you down a bit - rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a fellow turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - you may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup; and he learned too late when the night came down, how close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - the silver tint of the clouds of doubt, and when you never can tell how close you are, it may be near when it seems afar; so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit - it's when things seem...

Stop inflicting economic hardship on Ebonyians with tax demands, ex-SSG implores Umahi

Former Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State, Professor Benard Odoh, has implored the Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, to desist from inflicting economic hardship on Ebonyians. In an open letter he made available to Paulokahblog Friday morning, Odoh said that, "as a way of cushioning the devastating effects of the covid-19 pandemic on Ebonyi’s struggling economy, there is urgent need to jettison the collection of tenement rates/ground rents from landlords, excessive/forceful drive for quarry haulage levies and waiving of personal income taxes".  Odoh regretted that, despite the efforts of the state government in policing its borders against the COVID-19 pandemic, Ebonyi State, as of May 21, has recorded 13 cases and expressed hope that the situation would not get worse in the state in particular and Nigeria in general, even as he pledged support for the state government in ensuring that the active cases are managed successfully "to t...
